Shawn's Scribe Post - Percentage

Today in class, we first checked the Problems Of The Week Question which was assigned for homework. We had to do the Visual Question which stated the following :

Consider the shape shown. Can you keep the perimeter the same and make the area smaller? Larger? If so, draw the picture.

As you can see in the first image which is the original Visual which we are basing our answers off of, has:
- Perimeter of 16
- Area of 9

The second image shows that you can make an object using all the criteria that was used in the first image to make an object that has the same perimeter, but a bigger area:
- Perimeter of 16
- Area of 11

The last image shows that you can also make an object using all the criteria that was used in the original image to make an object that has the same perimeter, just a smaller area this time:
- Perimeter of 16
- Area of 7

We then had to Convert numbers which Mr. Harbeck had made into decimals, ratios, fractions and percentages into equivalents. This is what had been written down as the assignment:

Convert the following into equivalents:

0.65 - 65/100 = 13/20 , 65:35 , 65%

5:2 - 5/7 , 0.714 , 71.4%

17/20 - 0.85 , 85% , 17:3

2.6% - o.026 , 26/1000 , 26:974

These are the answers that were given at the end of this assignment , if there are any questions ask Mr. Harbeck !

The other day Mr.Harbeck gave us the numbers 300 & 85 and we had to find out the following percentages for them :
NOTE: This was given for homework.

1% - 300/100 x 1 = 3 = 1%

10% - 300/100 x 10 = 30 = 10%

15% - 300/100 x 15 = 45 = 15%

25% - 300/100 x 25 = 75 = 25%

50% - 300/100 x 50 = 150 = 50%

75% - 300/100 x 75 = 225 = 75%

In this case the whole 10x10 grid which is 100% is = to 300 because that is the total. That means each square in the grid below has a different value than the value of each square out of a total of 100. ex. 1% of 100 = 1 . So the value of each square in the grid below is 3.

The following are the number of squares and what the percentage is worth:

1) 1% of 300 = 3 = 1 square
2) 10% of 300 = 30 = 10 squares
3) 15% of 300 = 45 = 15 squares
4) 25% of 300 = 75 = 25 squares
5) 50% of 300 = 150 = 50 squares
6) 75% of 300 = 225 = 75 squares

This is the second part of the assignment which had also been corrected today in class. In this part we had to find out the following percentages for 85:

1% - 85/100 x 1 = 0.85 = 1%

10% - 85/100 x 10 = 8.5 = 10%

15% - 85/100 x 15 = 12.75 = 15%

25% - 85/100 x 25 = 21.25 = 25%

50% - 85/100 x 50 = 42.5 = 50%

75% - 85/100 x 75 = 63.75 = 75%

Now in this scenario the 100% is = to 85 because 85 is now the total. Now each square is worth 0.85 which is 1% of 85

The following is the number of squares and the value of the percentage for this part of the assignment:

1) 1% of 85 = o.85 = 1 square

2) 10% of 85 = 8.5 = 10 squares

3) 15% of 85 = 12.75 = 15 squares

4) 25% of 85 = 21.25 = 25 squares

5) 50% of 85 = 42.5 = 50 squares

6) 75% of 85 = 63.75 = 75 squares

The homework that was given out today was the Data/Investigations on the Problems of the Week paper. We also had to use 400 & 162 and find out the percentages using the following and then colour them on to the 10x10 grids :

1% , 5% , 10% , 30% , 65% , 85%

The other piece of homework that was given is almost the same thing as the assignment were we have to find specific percentages for two numbers but this time they are all random percentages and numbers. The questions were shown as the following:

What is 45% of 60?

" " 21% of 78?

" " 35% of 18?

" " 91% of 210?

" " 55% of 370?

" " 12% of 125?

" " 70% of 256?

After dooing this assignment you must colour them on the grid paper.

I will post the websites I used at school tomorrow!

The next scribe will be , JACOB MANLIGUEZ !! =P
